Granular Activated Carbon Manufacturer & Exporter
Carbon King manufactures granular activated carbon in India from coal and coconut shell, in standard and custom mesh sizes, for water treatment, gold recovery, food & beverage and industrial filtration.
Every consignment ships with a batch certificate of analysis. With 32+ years in activated carbon and 30,000 MT of annual capacity, we supply buyers in 18+ countries.
What is granular activated carbon?
Granular activated carbon is a highly porous form of carbon supplied as hard granules rather than powder. Its huge internal surface area traps chlorine, colour, odour and organic compounds as water or gas passes through a filter bed — a process called adsorption.
Because it is granular, the carbon sits in columns and pressure filters, can be backwashed, and can be regenerated once it is saturated. That makes it the standard choice for continuous treatment, where a powder would be dosed and thrown away.
Why buyers choose Carbon King granular activated carbon
- Two raw materials, one supplier — coal based for cost-effective bulk treatment, coconut shell for high activity and hardness.
- Hard granules — 95% minimum hardness on coal grades and 98% on coconut grades, so less dust and less loss on backwash.
- Mesh to suit your filter — 4×8 to 30×60, or as per order.
- Tested to ASTM / IS methods, with a certificate of analysis for every batch.
- Export ready — documents, custom packing and labelling handled by our team.

How to choose the right granular activated carbon
- Iodine value — a higher number means more micropore capacity for small molecules. Read our guide on how to read an activated carbon data sheet.
- Raw material — coconut shell for high activity and hardness; coal for economical bulk treatment.
- Mesh size — coarser mesh (4×8, 8×16) for low pressure drop; finer mesh (12×40, 30×60) for faster adsorption.
- Granular or powdered? — granular carbon for filter beds; powdered carbon for direct dosing. Compare them in granular vs powdered activated carbon.
Not sure? Send us your application, flow rate and the contaminant you want to remove, and our team will recommend a grade, mesh size and quantity.
Packing, samples & export
- Packing — bags and bulk bags; custom packing and labelling on request.
- Samples — available before a bulk order; tell us your application and grade.
- MOQ — depends on grade and packing; trial quantities can be discussed for new buyers.

Granular activated carbon — common questions
What is the difference between coal and coconut shell granular activated carbon?
Coconut shell granular activated carbon is harder (98% min) and more microporous, with iodine values from 900 to 1150 mg/gm, so it suits trace organics, gold recovery and beverages. Coal based granular activated carbon is denser and more economical for bulk water and wastewater treatment.
Which mesh size should I order?
We supply 4×8, 6×12, 8×16, 8×30, 12×40 and 30×60, or a size made to order. Coarser mesh gives lower pressure drop; finer mesh gives faster adsorption. Tell us your filter type and we will suggest one.
Can granular activated carbon be regenerated?
Yes. Coconut shell granular activated carbon can be regenerated once saturated, so the same charge can be used over several cycles.
Do you export granular activated carbon?
Yes. We supply buyers in 18+ countries across the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and other regions, and handle export documents and container shipping.
