Powdered Activated Carbon Supplier & Exporter
Carbon King supplies powdered activated carbon from India in coal based and wood based grades, ground to 200 mesh, for edible oil refining, water treatment, sugar, pharmaceuticals and effluent treatment.
Every grade is produced by steam activation and ships with a batch certificate of analysis. With 32+ years in activated carbon and 30,000 MT of annual capacity, we supply buyers in 18+ countries.
What is powdered activated carbon?
Powdered activated carbon is activated carbon ground so fine that 90% of it passes a 200 mesh sieve. Instead of sitting in a filter bed, it is dosed directly into the liquid, mixed, and then removed by filtration or settling.
Because every particle is already at the surface, it adsorbs far faster than a granular carbon. That makes it the right choice for batch processes, refining lines and seasonal problems — such as taste and odour in a municipal supply — where a quick, adjustable dose is better than a fixed filter.
Why buyers choose Carbon King powdered carbon
- Coal and wood grades — coal for economical refining and water treatment, wood for the highest iodine values and large colour bodies.
- Iodine value 500 to 1100 mg/gm — six grades in total, so you pay only for the activity you need.
- Steam activated — produced under stringent operating conditions for consistent batches.
- Tested to ASTM / IS methods — with a certificate of analysis for every batch.
- Export ready — documents, custom packing and labelling handled by our team.
Coal based and wood based powdered activated carbon grades
Key values are below. The full specification, test methods and grade codes are on the technical data sheet.
Coal Based Powdered Activated Carbon
Optimised for edible oil refining — decolourising and removing dirt and micro-impurities — and also suited to non-edible oil refining and waste water purification.
| Iodine value | 500 – 600 / 700 – 800 mg/gm |
|---|---|
| Bulk density | 480 – 500 kg/m³ |
| Ash content | 8% |
| Moisture | Below 5% |
| Mesh size | 90% passes 200 mesh |
Wood Based Powdered Activated Carbon
A more open pore structure and much lower bulk density — it lifts large colour bodies that a denser carbon leaves behind.
| Iodine value | 800 / 900 / 1000 / 1100 mg/gm |
|---|---|
| Methylene blue (min) | 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 mg/gm |
| Bulk density | 470 / 360 / 340 / 340 kg/m³ |
| Moisture | Below 5% / below 3% |
| Mesh size | 90% passes 200 mesh |

How to choose the right powdered activated carbon
- Colour load — for heavy or large colour bodies, a wood based grade with a high methylene blue value works best.
- Iodine value — higher iodine value means more capacity for small molecules. See how to read an activated carbon data sheet.
- Process type — powder suits batch dosing and refining; for continuous filter beds choose granular activated carbon.
- Powdered or granular? — compare both in granular vs powdered activated carbon.
Not sure? Send us your application, the colour or contaminant you want to remove and your batch size, and our team will suggest a grade and dose.

Powdered Activated Carbon — common questions
What is the difference between coal and wood based powdered activated carbon?
Wood based powdered carbon has a more open pore structure, higher iodine values (800 to 1100 mg/gm) and a much lower bulk density, so it removes large colour bodies. Coal based powdered carbon (500 to 800 mg/gm) is denser and economical for edible oil refining and water treatment.
How fine is your powdered activated carbon?
All our powdered grades are ground so that 90% passes through a 200 mesh sieve.
Which industries use powdered activated carbon?
Edible and non-edible oil refining, municipal and industrial water treatment, sugar, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, chemical processing and effluent treatment plants.
Do you export powdered activated carbon?
Yes. We supply buyers in 18+ countries across the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and other regions, and handle export documents and container shipping.
