Why coconut shell?
Coconut shell is a dense, clean raw material. When it is activated, it forms a very fine network of micropores — the size that traps small molecules such as trace organics, chlorine by-products and gold-cyanide complexes.
The result is a carbon with high activity, low ash and very hard granules. It survives repeated backwashing and handling, and it can be regenerated once saturated, so the same charge can be used over several cycles.

How to choose the right coconut shell grade
- Iodine value — higher numbers suit very low trace-organic targets; see how to read an activated carbon data sheet.
- Mesh size — coarser mesh (4×8, 6×12) for low pressure drop and gold recovery columns; finer mesh (12×40, 30×60) for faster adsorption.
- Coal or coconut? — for economical bulk water treatment, compare our coal grades on the granular activated carbon page.
- Regeneration — if you plan to reactivate the carbon, coconut shell is the better choice for its hardness.

Why is coconut shell activated carbon used for gold recovery?
It is very hard and highly microporous, so it loads gold well and survives the abrasion of CIP and CIL circuits. Our grades give a K value above 24 kg/tonne and an R value of 65%.
